Collaborative compositional process between choreographers and composers utilizing sound spatialization strategies.
In collaboration with the ICST (Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology) of the ZHdK.
"Sound motion in space" can be as exciting as body movement in space. Today's A / V technology provides new audio possibilites for choreographers and composers. This seminar explores the world of the common horizontal "Surround sound" experience and its advancement towards full 3-D paradigm, and in particular creating new strategies in which audio projection can influence dancers within a performance context. For years, ICST ( Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology - a division of the ZHdK ), has been doing research on Ambisonics as a surround format, which not only allows the simulation of existing sound spaces, but also allows the production of surround sound movements that go far beyond conventional surround sound systems possibilities. The technical aspects have been greatly developped but not put into practical application. This provides an exciting interaction between choreographers, musicians and 3D surround technology, with notation possibilities which are now being investigated in a parallel ICST project (SSSN - Spatialization Symbolic Music Notation). The goal is to discover interactive possibilites which need to be experimented through exercises and discussions.
